The tendon spacer is a temporary implant designed for use in the two-stage procedure for the reconstruction of flexor and extensor tendons of the hand (Hunter’s technique).
The tendon spacer is made from silicone. It is a single use medical device, provided sterile in individual packaging.
First stage:
The tendon spacer is temporarily implanted to replicate the natural tendon, allowing a pseudo-synovial sheath to form.
Second stage :
Once the pseudo-synovial sheath formed (typically 2 to 6 months after implantation), the tendon spacer is removed, and either the tendinous graft, or the original tendon, is reattached.
